Why does WhispAway open when I start dictating?
On iOS, only an app can use the microphone, not a keyboard. Your first dictation opens WhispAway for a moment to start a session. Swipe back along the bottom edge and keep dictating.
The session stays ready for 15 minutes after your last dictation; you can choose 5 to 60 minutes in Settings.
Why does the keyboard need Full Access?
Full Access lets the keyboard share a folder with the WhispAway app. That's how your words get from the app into the keyboard. It also allows the keyboard's haptic taps.
The keyboard has no internet access of its own and never sends what you type.
Does it work offline?
Yes, with the models on your iPhone. You need internet once, to download them.
Why does it say “Getting ready”?
A new model must be prepared for your iPhone's Neural Engine once. This takes a few minutes, and again after some iOS updates. Meanwhile WhispAway Cloud or a smaller model types, so you can dictate right away.
Keep WhispAway open, or in the background, until it's done. If you close WhispAway by swiping it away, nothing downloads or gets ready until you open it again. Otherwise it finishes tonight while your iPhone charges.
Which languages?
You can dictate in Whisper's 99 languages. Swedish, English and Chinese get the most care, with models chosen for them and a Pinyin keyboard for Chinese. Add languages and pick their models in WhispAway › Languages & Models.
What does WhispAway Cloud cost, and how do I cancel?
WhispAway Cloud is free for 14 days, then 59 kr a month or 490 kr a year. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews, in Settings › your name › Subscriptions. The models on your iPhone stay free.
I have a new iPhone, or I reinstalled the app.
Open WhispAway › Settings › WhispAway Cloud and tap Restore purchases. One subscription covers all your iPhones and iPads on the same Apple ID.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles refunds, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Is my audio stored?
No. On your iPhone, dictation never leaves it. In WhispAway Cloud, the audio is transcribed in Sweden and deleted at once. See the privacy policy.
Can I dictate emoji?
Yes. Say the emoji's name, then “emoji”: “thumbs up emoji” types 👍, “heart emoji” ❤️ and “rocket emoji” 🚀. In Swedish, say “tumme upp emoji” or “hjärta emoji”; in Chinese, add 表情, as in 点赞表情.
To keep the words instead, say “literally” first: “literally rocket emoji” types “rocket emoji”. In Swedish, “bokstavligen” works too. It works offline, and you can turn it off in WhispAway's Settings under Spoken emoji.
Can I turn off usage statistics?
Yes. Setup asks you first, and you can change your choice any time in WhispAway's Settings, under Privacy. They never contain your words or audio.
